The sanctuary
The Sanctuary of the Santissima Pietà, on the beautiful lakefront of Cannobio, on the sides of which stands Il Portico, was built by the will of San Carlo Borromeo between 1575 and 1614 following the miraculous events of 1522, which took place in the home of Tommaso's family of the Zacchei.
